Professor Ian Macdonald, the 2023 NCH Research Foundation Visiting Professor, will be in South Australia from 31 October to 14 November.
Professor Emeritus from Metabolic Physiology at the University of Nottingham UK, Professor Macdonald’s research focus is the functional consequences of metabolic and nutritional disturbances in health and disease, with specific interests in obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and exercise, predominantly in healthy individuals and patients.
A major feature of Professor Macdonald’s research has been the study of multiple body systems to evaluate whole body responses. His major areas of current interest relate to the use of MR imaging and spectroscopy for assessing alterations in metabolism and the influence of nutrients and metabolic disturbances on gene expression in adipose tissue and muscle.
