A key role of the Northern Community Health and Research Foundation is to support early career researchers to support the growth and dissemination of knowledge, and to connect researchers to practitioners to support better health outcomes for the northern community. Many of the projects supported over the decades have had positive impacts well beyond the local community, informing practice and research at national and international levels.
An annual highlight of the Foundation’s activities in this area is the presentation of cash prizes to two outstanding recipients from the field of students presenting their research at the University of Adelaide’s Faculty of Health and Medical Research Sciences Florey Postgraduate Conference.
From a field of 99 research projects presented at the 2024 conference, we are proud to announce the two winners are Tahlia Grammatopoulos and Maryam Sajjad.
Tahlia’s research project was ‘Effectiveness of vaping cessation interventions: rapid review of global evidence’, and she has been awarded funding to continue her research work.
Maryam Sajjad’s research project investigated ‘The effects of combined administration of combined intragastric administration of quinine with L-leucine on gastric emptying of, and the postprandial blood glucose responses to, a mixed nutrient drink’.
Maryam’s prize was presented by Professor Gregory Crawford representing the Northern Community Health and Research Foundation, and Professor Andrew Zannettino, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Maryam is pictured here with Professor Crawford (Tahlia was unable to attend the prize-giving event).
