NCHRF Chair Mr Nino Di Sisto opened the 2026 Research Week Plenary Presentation

NCHRF’s first Research Week has been an outstanding success, attracting attention from health and medical researchers, students, local communities and members of the public interested in common community health challenges and solutions.

The program extended to 10 days and included a special Plenary Presentation at the National Wine Centre and the 2026 Visiting Professor Program.

The Plenary Presentation included a showcase of projects and programs recently or currently being supported by the Foundation and the awarding of the 2026 Derek Frewin Early Career Researcher Award to Dr Ying Yu, Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Adelaide University.

This event also included the 2026 Visiting Professor's Address by Professor Emilio Nuzzolese focusing on global and local perspectives in forensic odontology casework, followed by a panel discussion with Professor Nuzzolese and Adelaide University forensic odontology experts Dr John Berketa and Dr Sher-Lin Chiam, chaired by Professor Mark Hutchinson, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Performance (interim), Research & Innovation at Adelaide University.

2026 Visiting Professor Program

This year’s Visiting Professor program was one of the busiest in the 20+ year history of this program, which brings internationally recognised medical and health research experts to Adelaide to collaborate with local researchers, students, clinicians and healthcare professionals.

The 2026 Visiting Professor  was Professor Emilio Nuzzolese, Researcher, Forensic Odontologist and Professor of Legal Medicine at the University of Turin. Professor Nuzzolese also participated in a panel with South Australian forensic research leaders Dr John Berketa and Dr Sher-Lin Chiam from Adelaide University, both well-known across many countries as experts in this field. This event was attended by over 100 professionals and members of the public with an interest in forensic odontology and victim identification.

Professor Nuzzolese’s program included a number of hospital grand rounds which were also livestreamed, sessions with students, and seminars for the Forensic Science Centre SA, the Forensic Odontology Unit and School of Dentistry at Adelaide University. Professor Nuzzolese also gave media interviews with ABC 891 Adelaide and Radio Italia 531. Professor Nuzzolese's visit to Adelaide was sponsored by Dr John Berketa.
