The 27th year of the Foundation has seen significant progress in flagship research projects such as the Prescriptions for Connection: A Social Prescribing Approach for Healthy Ageing project. This project, developed and supported by the Foundation, aims to develop scalable initiatives to assist in the reduction of reliance on health services to mitigate the effects of social isolation and loneliness, which currently contribute to around 20% of GP consultations.

2024-2025 has also seen one of the most highly regarded and successful Visiting Professor programs, through which NCHRF supports a peer-nominated researcher to visit and participate in a program of undergraduate, postgraduate and primary care practitioner education and networking. The connections and insights shared by world-renowned neuroimmunology and pain research expert and University of Adelaide alumnus Associate Professor Peter Grace are expected to positively impact research projects and careers in South Australia for years to come.

NCHRF was proud to present an event celebrating the significance of ongoing programs supporting early career researchers, at which six recipients of the prestigious Derek Frewin Early Career Researchers shared their experiences since receiving the award and the impact it has had on their work and careers. This was a snapshot of the value of NCHRF’s mission to support researchers which has, since the establishment of the Foundation, seeded over $10.6m in funding and led to research outcomes with national impact. We have continued our work supporting early career researchers through the Derek Frewin Early Career Researcher Award, the University of Adelaide’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences Three-Minute Thesis and Florey Postgraduate Award recipients, and the Adelaide Medical Students Foundation.

Grassroots community programs focusing on wellbeing in the northern communities of the Councils of Prospect, Walkerville and Port Adelaide Enfield also received support from the Foundation through the 2024-2025 year.
